Reynolds hurdles into Beijing contention

Ben Reynolds has put himself into qualifying contention for the World Track and Field Championships by winning the 110m hurdles at the England Athletics Championships in a new personal best of 13.48 seconds (+0.8m/s).

Reynolds was narrowly outside the World Track and Field Championships qualifying time of 13.47 but is inside a new selection process for the 2015 IAAF World Championship qualifying marks based on the year-end-rankings list.

It is explained on the Athletics Ireland high performance site as follows:

"The rules are, that if an athlete does not make the standard, the IAAF will select athletes from the year-end-rankings list to fill the quota set for each event (each event has a different quota to fill). After the entries have closed on midnight on the 10th of August the IAAF will notify federations of those athletes who have been selected by their “ranking” to fill the event quota.  Our policy allows Athletics Ireland to consider and confirm those athletes that are invited."

The quota for the 110m hurdles is 40 athletes with Reynolds' time placing him 35th. There are a number of other Irish athletes still inside the quota and they are listed below.
