Season openers at Somerset Heptathlon and Decathlon

A number of combined event athletes travelled to Somerset to compete in the Schools AA / County AA and Open Combined Events Championships in Millfield on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th April.

Kate O’Connor (St Gerard’s AC) took first place in the open heptathlon with a terrific total of 5,360 over the two days including a 1.72 high jump, 25.90 200m and a 41.59m javelin.

Anna McCauley (City of Lisburn AC) won the Girls U18 heptathlon with a great score of 4,699 which also placed her 2nd in the open competition behind her team mate Kate. Anna registered a 1.66 high jump, a 10.46m shot and 5.07m long jump amongst her seven events over two days.

Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown AC) also competed on day one in the open heptathlon with solid scores for the first four events but unfortunately had to withdraw on the second day.

Daniel Ryan (Thurles CBS) took third place overall in the open Decathlon with a super total of 6,162. Highlights of the weekend for Daniel included an 11.41 100m, a 6.40m long jump and a 14.15m shot as well as a 3.70m pole vault in difficult conditions.

Peter Glass (City of Lisburn) was competitive with solid performances in the open decathlon on day one and started well in day two but unfortunately had to withdraw after finding 41.50m in the discus. Peter was on a great 5,111 points with three events remaining on day two.

Well done to all athletes that travelled and represented their clubs and schools, a special mention of gratitude to the coaches and families who supported all the athletes over the long weekend. Full results can be downloaded for HERE.
