The Stars align for the Le Chéile Mile

POSTED:

The Le Chéile International on June 27th will see one of the highest quality Mile fields ever assembled in Ireland. It will feature David McCarthy (3.55.75), fresh from his exploits at the World Indoor Championships, going head-to-head with the cream of Irish talent, as well as some recently announced International stars.

Heading that list is Jordy Williamsz of Australia, who can boast an indoor best in 2014 of 3.56.00, and has a 1500m P.B. of 3.36.74. Jordy will be joined in the race by two fellow Australians, Brett Robinson (3.38.94 for 1500m), a 2013 World Championship Semi Finalist, and Sam McEntee (3.36.81 for 1500m).

Making his Irish debut in the race will be Kevin Batt (3.59.70), who has recently switched allegiance from Australia to Ireland and will be looking to announce his arrival on the Irish scene in some style. His Irish opponents, John Coughlan (3.59.32), John Travers (3.42.07-1500m), Mark Hanrahan (4.00.73) and Joe Warne (3.43.62-1500m), will doubtless want to mark their territory, building up to the National Championships in July and European Championships in August.

All-in-all the Le Cheile Mile promises to be one of the highlights of the year, with the prospect of a host of athletes breaking the 4-minute barrier, 60 years on from Roger Bannister’s record breaking achievement.

The Le Chéile International takes place in Leixlip, Co. Kildare on Friday 27th June at 6pm. Entry is free of charge. For more information contact David McCarthy on +353857327662 or visit:
