Young Stars Shine In Tullamore

Championship Best Performances and thrilling competition was the order of the day at the GloHealth Juvenile Track and Field Championships held in Tullamore on Sunday the 13th of July.

Field Events

Robbie Marrs (City of Lisburn AC) set a stunning new Championships Best Performance (CBP) of 1.94m in the U16 boy’s High Jump. The mark added 4cm to the old record set in 2011 by David Cussen. For good measure Ryan Carthy (Adamstown AC) was also over the old mark clearing 1.91m for second place.

Another CBP was set in the U13 boy’s High Jump by Robert Dillon (Midleton AC) with a clearance of 1.55m. Ciara Deely (Kilkenny City Harriers AC) impressed with victory in the U15 High Jump with a clearance of 1.66m. Deely also won the 80m hurdles title in a time of 12.19.

James Kelly (Finn Valley AC) produced a huge throw in the U15 boy’s Javelin to set a new CBP of 51.67m, this added over 6m to the old mark held by Philip Burns (Bandon AC)- 45.15m. Darren Prout (Carrick on Suir AC) was an impressive winner of the U18 boy’s Triple Jump with a jump of 13.12m.

Hurdles

Sam Healy (Leevale AC) was the clear winner of the U19 boy’s 110m hurdles title in a time of 15.33 seconds. The expected battle with Mathew Behan (Crusaders AC) never transpired as he was disqualified for a false start. 

Daniel Ryan (Moycarkey Coolcroo AC) won the U16 boy’s 100m hurdles title in a time of 13.45 which surpassed the old mark (13.66) held by Irish International 400m Hurdler Jason Harvey (Crusaders AC) which had stood since 2006

100m

Molly Scott (St Laurence O’Toole AC) was another of those to impress in the hurdles winning the U16 title in a time of 11.67. Elizabeth Morland (Cushinstown AC) was on the double in Tullamore as she won the U17 girls 100m hurdles in a time of 14.63 an the Long Jump with a leap of 5.78m.

Scott also competed in the sprint event finishing second behind a storming run by Gina Akpe Moses (Blackrock AC) who won the title in a time of 12.10. The time was a new CBP breaking the old mark held by Sarah Lavin (Emerald AC) which stood at 12.14.

Niamh McNicol (Ferrybank AC) had a comfortable victory in the U18 girl’s 100m to win the title in a time of 12.12. Patience Gula Jumbo (St Gerard’s AC) set a new CBP of 10.19 in the U14 girl’s 80 event.

It was double joy for Connacht in the boy’s sprint events with Christopher O’Donnell (North Sligo AC) winning the U17 title in a time of 11.17 and Conor Duggan (Craughwell AC) claiming the U18 title in a time of 11.27. Dean Power (Tullamore Harriers AC) was a class apart in the U19 100m as he won the national title in 11.03

Sean Collins (Ennis Track AC) and Damien O’Boyle (Craughwell AC) battled it out in the U18 boy’s 3,000m steeplechase.  Collins proved the stronger on the day winning the title in a time of 9.53.65 with Boyle close in second in a time of 9.56.10. Ciara Cummins won the girl’s U18 2,000m steeplechase in a time of 7.20.70
