Forest Feast Little Athletics Jamboree a Success in Raheny, North Dublin

Getting active and having fun was top of the agenda for Raheny kids last night with a hugely successful Forest Feast Little Athletics Jamboree event taking place in Manor House School.

The fun-filled event, on Thursday 21st May, brought together over 220 young athletes (5-12 years old) from the Raheny Shamrock athletics club together to participate in an action packed evening of activity.

The event was co-ordinated by Collette Quinn of Raheny Shamrock AC who enlisted the help of over 20 volunteers. They put the young athletes through their paces by participating in various games, challenges and activities, which worked on their agility, balance and coordination - the three fundamentals of Forest Feast Little Athletics.

Athletics Ireland Regional Development Officer for North Dublin, Bart Rogers, said: “It was great to see so many children here today getting active and having fun at the same time. It’s hugely important that children understand the importance of staying active from a young age.

“We’re delighted that Forest Feast Little Athletics is growing even more popular across Ireland this year, with schools and clubs getting fully behind the programme.”

Christine Whelan of dried fruit and nut brand Forest Feast, sponsor of Little Athletics, said:
“Forest Feast Little Athletics Jamborees are a perfect way for kids to get active and make new friends in a relaxed and fun environment. They introduce the important lesson that keeping fit can and should be fun – and instil a very healthy attitude to leading an active lifestyle.

“It was great to see so many children in Raheny taking part in the Jamboree – they all had endless energy and most importantly, really enjoyed themselves!”

The Jamboree event comes on the back of the recent new partnership between Athletics Ireland and dried fruit and nut experts Forest Feast, who will support the growth of grassroot athletics in Ireland through the major sponsorship of Little Athletics. Forest Feast Little Athletics introduces young children (5-12 years) to athletics in a fun, engaging and non-competitive environment.

There are further Forest Feast Little Athletics Jamboree events planned over the coming weeks, with. AIT International Arena, 6.30pm-8.30pm on Wednesday 25th June, the next on the calendar.
